Simple Tips

Installing Your Tire Chains

01

Test fit your chains before you need them. Be sure you have the correct chains for your tire size. Consult your owner’s manual if you are unsure.

02

Lay the chains out flat on the ground to untangle and inspect them for irregularities. Make sure they are not twisted or knotted.

03

Install the tire chains on the drive wheels of your vehicle, which are typically the front wheels for front-wheel drive vehicles and the rear wheels for rear-wheel drive vehicles.

04

Check for proper clearance of your vehicle. Then, drive a short distance and check the chains to make sure they are properly secured and adjusted. Never drive over 30 MPH.

Q & A

Ask a question
Are chain tensioners required for chains or more of a safety item? Tom asked on November 27, 2024

Hello, tire chain tensioners are not required but are highly recommended for safety. They help keep the chains properly fitted, preventing slippage or loosening while driving. This ensures better traction, reduces the risk of damage to the tires or vehicle, and makes installation easier. While not mandatory, tensioners enhance the effectiveness and safety of tire chains, especially in challenging conditions. If you have any more questions, would more info, or any assistance please contact us at 866-437-5883 and one of our chain experts would be happy to help!
