Simple Tips

Installing Your Tire Chains

01

Test fit your chains before you need them. Be sure you have the correct chains for your tire size. Consult your owner’s manual if you are unsure.

02

Lay the chains out flat on the ground to untangle and inspect them for irregularities. Make sure they are not twisted or knotted.

03

Install the tire chains on the drive wheels of your vehicle, which are typically the front wheels for front-wheel drive vehicles and the rear wheels for rear-wheel drive vehicles.

04

Check for proper clearance of your vehicle. Then, drive a short distance and check the chains to make sure they are properly secured and adjusted. Never drive over 30 MPH.

Installed on a John Deere 534 lawn tractor with 24x9.50 12 NHS rear tires. They fit great after I added two links, 4 per tire, two inside and two outside on each tire 8 links total. That was easy since I happened to have extra chain in my garage. I cut one side of the link, twisted it, added it to the tire chain and flattened it back out. You could also just use threaded link connectors. Tried them out for the first time this week, problem solved! Also have 4 weights hanging on the back of the tractor which weren’t quite enough before the chains, but now it’s amazing! No spinning and they do not seem to even leave marks on the pavement. Got the 2 link, twisted set which gives you more chain on the tire closer together and better ride. The tractor is 4 wheel steer and the chains are really close to the linkage in the back but they clear and haven’t hit at all that I can tell. Important to keep chains tight to avoid contact with the steering linkage. I added two crisscross bungee straps per tire to ensure there is always tension on the chains as a precaution against loosening up and catching anywhere. So far so good…

A little tricky to get on. Especially with new R4 tires. The H pattern with VBar gets awesome traction.
