Simple Tips

Installing Your Tire Chains

01

Test fit your chains before you need them. Be sure you have the correct chains for your tire size. Consult your owner’s manual if you are unsure.

02

Lay the chains out flat on the ground to untangle and inspect them for irregularities. Make sure they are not twisted or knotted.

03

Install the tire chains on the drive wheels of your vehicle, which are typically the front wheels for front-wheel drive vehicles and the rear wheels for rear-wheel drive vehicles.

04

Check for proper clearance of your vehicle. Then, drive a short distance and check the chains to make sure they are properly secured and adjusted. Never drive over 30 MPH.

Q & A

What's the difference between a two-link and a four-link chain? Timothy Rector asked on November 15, 2023

Hello, two-link/four-link refers to the number of links between cross chains. Cross chains are the chains that cross over the tire tread to provide traction. A two-link chain has two links between cross chains meaning the cross chains are closer together and will provide better ground coverage/traction than a 4-link chain which will have 4-links between cross chains spacing them further apart. Two link chains are also generally more expensive than 4-link chains because of this. If you view some images on our website of a 2-link vs. a 4-link you will visually see this difference also. Not everyone needs 2-link chains depending on their application. If you have more questions or need further assistance, please give us a call at 866-853-1417 and one of our chain experts would be happy to assist you.
